More Than Meets the Eye
I am more than a student, I am...
...A First Gen-Student
I am a proud first-generation college student. My parents immigrated from Mexico to the United States to provide my siblings and me with greater opportunities for a better life. Neither of my parents completed high school or attended college, so navigating the process of applying to and attending university was a completely new experience for my family. Despite these challenges, I graduated 7th in my high school class with a GPA exceeding 4.3. During my senior year, I was honored to receive multiple scholarships through the Community Foundation of Hancock County, including one specifically for first-generation students. I am deeply grateful for the support that has helped make my educational journey possible.

...Not Afraid of a Little Dirt
During my early childhood, I grew up on a farm, an experience that instilled in me a deep appreciation for the outdoors, animals, and the spirit of adventure. I played an active role in assisting my parents with various responsibilities, including administering vaccinations, providing medication, feeding livestock, and even aiding in the birthing process of animals. These tasks taught me the importance of hard work, adaptability, and not shying away from messy or challenging situations. While the farm's demanding and often unpleasant environment could be daunting, it fostered resilience and a strong work ethic that have profoundly shaped who I am today.
...A Helping Hand
During my Junior and Senior years of high school, I had the privilege of tutoring English Learning students in various subjects. My bilingual skills in Spanish and English allowed me to break down language barriers and connect with these shy, reserved students. Over time, I witnessed their transformation as they became more engaged and motivated. The most rewarding moment was when one student proudly showed their test grade and hugged me, solidifying my commitment to a career dedicated to helping others grow.
...A Little Competitive
I am a very athletic person and I love to play all kinds of sports. In high school, I played varsity soccer, track, and weightlifting. I now picked up the hobby of pickleball, CCA soccer, and intramural sports!
