Global Nutrition Virtual Exchange

The Global Nutrition Virtual Exchange program was a partnership with peers in Newcastle University (UK) to collaborate about nutrition.

My freshman year (2023) my Nutrition for Health class partnered up with Newcastle University in the UK. This virtual partnership and exchange was meant to help build our knowledge of how nutrition varies from each country and give us a global understanding of how nutrition is a viewed differently in the UK versus here in the USA.

I learned how nutrition isn't as accessible as many believe it to be. The conversations I had with fellow Newcastle students helped me identify cultural differences, social factors, and just how accessible food is. We came to the conclusion that portion sizes, MyPlate recommendations, and environment contributed to these differences in nutrition. Overall, this global nutrition exchange gave me an opportunity to build connections with people from a different country and with different perspectives.
