KINE-P403

KINE-P403 is a class that helps Exercise Science students build on leadership skills. It is designed to teach students about group fitness and how to build exercise programs.

In this class, our final project was to design a comprehensive group fitness video specifically targeted to assist adults aged 35-60 who are seeking a higher-intensity cardio-based workout. This demographic often faces unique challenges and considerations when it comes to exercise, including varying fitness levels, potential health concerns, and the need for motivation to maintain an active lifestyle. Understanding these factors was crucial as we set out to create an engaging and effective workout routine that would not only elevate their heart rates but also keep them motivated throughout the session. To address these needs, our group meticulously designed a 17-minute continuous non-beat based workout routine that incorporated a variety of cardio exercises aimed at improving cardiovascular endurance, strength, and overall fitness. The absence of a specific musical beat allowed us to focus on the flow and transitions between exercises, enabling participants to maintain their own rhythm and pace while still engaging in a high-intensity workout.

This class was instrumental in helping us develop our leadership and personal training (PT) skills. Throughout the course, we were encouraged to collaborate and communicate effectively with our peers, which not only strengthened our teamwork abilities but also fostered a sense of accountability and shared responsibility for the success of our project. It provided us with a unique opportunity to program and design our own routine from scratch, allowing us to apply the theoretical knowledge we had gained in class to a practical setting. We engaged in extensive discussions about the physiological principles behind high-intensity workouts, the importance of warm-up and cool-down periods, and how to structure a routine that is both challenging and safe for our target audience. This experience not only enhanced our technical skills in fitness programming but also honed our ability to motivate and inspire others to embrace a healthier lifestyle through engaging fitness routines.
